It’s rare that I post someone else’s writing but the author of this article sent it directly to me and it fits very well with what I’ve been saying on this site. It is written about addictions but it applies to almost all diagnoses. I find it especially true of obsessive compulsive problems, so think about that as you read.
One disclaimer: I quibble a bit with what sounds like his condemnation of 12 Step Programs; I encourage you not to discount them based on his article. Those programs (AA, NA, etc.) have been extremely helpful if not life saving for some – but, as he points out, they are not for everyone.
Enjoy, and thank you Dr. Dodes, for your contribution!
