I get to rant, too!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shut in like everyone else, watching the world go through it&#8217;s paces, I&#8217;m going to break out of my usual role.\u00a0 Instead of my more traditional offering of what psychology can teach and heal in you and in the world, I&#8217;m letting myself have a rant.\u00a0 The Washington Post has it under submission but I think I missed the deadline &#8211; they published my last one &#8211; so here it is.\u00a0 Have fun.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Diane Roberts (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/outlook\/florida-beach-coronavirus-desantis\/2020\/04\/22\/9a45c782-8429-11ea-ae26-989cfce1c7c7_story.html?utm_campaign=wp_todays_headlines&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;wpisrc=nl_headlines)\">\u201cIn Florida, we love our beaches\u2026\u201d, 4\/22\/2020<\/a>, you may need a Washington Post subscription to read this) strikes something of an admirable balance as she describes Florida\u2019s failure to address or even accept the COVID crisis.\u00a0 She blames the leadership and the populace; she accurately paints the former as self-serving liars entirely unconcerned with their responsibilities or anyone\u2019s life, the latter as irresponsible, impulse-driven children.\u00a0 But you can\u2019t blame the monster, you have to blame Dr. Frankenstein.\u00a0 Floridians elected their current leadership, just as we elected our national nut in chief.\u00a0 And we\u2019ve been doing it at least for the past 50 years.\u00a0 Ronald Reagan was a HUAC supporting, dangerously uninformed, mediocre actor.\u00a0 The media warned us at the time that he knew little of the world and was teetering on senility.\u00a0 But he was fatherly \u2013 soothing \u2013 so we voted him into the presidency.\u00a0 Twice.\u00a0 While he put on a show of bombing Gaddafi\u2019s Libya that same country had special forgiveness from the U.S. government wherein their investments here were not subject to the same oversight and reporting requirements as were other countries; the rhetoric and the bombing was on page one of the New York Times, the special deal was buried in the inner pages few people get around to reading.\u00a0 Bush the First announced with great and comforting machismo \u201cRead my lips, no new taxes\u201d.\u00a0 We elected him.\u00a0 He raised taxes.\u00a0\u00a0 Public office holders like these and far worse now have power all over the world, but make no mistake:\u00a0 We put them there.\u00a0 Like the Kardashians, the kids on \u201cJersey Shore\u201d, Bush Jr., the appalling Bill Clinton, they are our high fructose corn syrup, our soothing hit of crystal meth, and one is left wondering what kind of bottom the world has to hit before we grow up.<\/h3>\n<p>Bennett Pologe, PhD\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 4\/26\/2020<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Shut in like everyone else, watching the world go through it&#8217;s paces, I&#8217;m going to break out of my usual role.\u00a0 Instead of my more traditional offering of what psychology can teach and heal in you and in the world, &hellip;
